Africa Basque Challenge
Africa Basque Challenge (ABC) is an entrepreneurship experience where young people from different countries co-create social enterprises addressing challenges affecting their communities.
The challenge aims to empower young multi-cultural entrepreneurs with business ideas to work together and be ‘out of the box’ co-creators. These young people are also motivated to ensure that they create a community of change makers with a global mindset and local commitment. ABC embraces diversity as well as strives to inspire sustainable solutions to socio-economic challenges.
First Edition – Kenya 2018
The Africa Basque Challenge (ABC) calls for innovative and creative solutions from young people in the Basque Country and Kenya that bridge the urban-rural gap. ABC provides a platform for intercultural co-creation, learning, idea development and start-up founding.
ABC was created thanks to the existing relationships between Africa and the Basque Country. It is a partnership between foundations, academic institutions and companies from both Kenya and the Basque Country.
This collaboration aims to promote new socio-business realities co-created by young people who collaborate on an intercultural level.

Second Edition – Senegal 2020
The availability of health care in Senegal is a long-term problem. Senegal’s health system operates under a three-tier structure, but many Senegalese citizens do not have access to any of these three positions. Although health posts are the most frequent, there is still only one post available for 115,000 people. A center is intended to serve 175,000 inhabitants, and a regional hospital exists for 545,800 inhabitants. In addition, only one doctor is available for 17,000 patients, and 32% of rural citizens still live without access to medical care.
