Climate Change Is Everyone’s Business

Harnessing the Power of Youth for a Sustainable Future

Kenya’s vibrant youthful population holds the key to unlocking innovative solutions for climate change. We believe that the energy, creativity, and resilience of Kenya’s youth can drive powerful climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.

The Samburu Youth Climate Action Challenge

    Empowering Change-Makers:
The Samburu Youth Climate Action Challenge was designed to transform the potential of young innovators into real-world solutions. 75 young climate champions took on the mission to create impactful business solutions that address both social and environmental challenges.

    What the Challenge Offered:

    • Entrepreneurship & Innovation: Young participants identified critical issues within their communities and crafted business solutions that mitigated the effects of climate change.
    • Youth Empowerment & Leadership: By promoting active participation and leadership, the program fostered a culture of self-reliance and innovation among the cohort.
    • Environmental Sustainability: Through social entrepreneurship, the challenge integrated environmental stewardship with sustainable business practices.

    Backed by Global Partners

This initiative was one of the elements of the “Strengthen Community Resilience to both COVID-19 and Climate Shocks in Samburu County” project, a partnership of the Embassy of Sweden in Kenya and UNICEF Kenya and Samburu’s County Government.

    A Snapshot of The Challenge

Empowering Future Leaders in Climate Innovation

75 passionate youth took part in focused bootcamps designed to fuel their entrepreneurial and climate action ambitions. The initiative was tailored to meet participants at different stages of their journey: idea stage and early stage.

    Key Highlights:

    • Idea-Stage Bootcamp:
Young innovators with emerging ideas formed changemaker teams to refine their ideas for an intensive bootcamp. Participants were coached in a collaborative environment, and came up with innovative solutions to local climate challenges.

    • Early-Stage Bootcamp:
For participants already operating climate-smart ventures, the bootcamp provided strategic guidance to scale their impact. This session also included a competitive pitch session judged by local experts.
    • Incubation & Acceleration:
5 teams advanced to a 6-month phase of mentoring, coaching, and business support. This phase not only equipped them with practical skills but also fostered valuable networks.

    • Seed Funding:
Winning teams received seed funding to kickstart their climate-smart ventures — ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 Kenya Shillings.

This initiative paved the way for a new generation of climate leaders in Samburu, demonstrating the transformative power of youth engagement in addressing environmental challenges.
